The White Oak
This White Oak Tree (Quercus alba) is the largest in the state and is the Virginia State Champion White Oak. Based on its species, size, and condition, this tree is approximately 450 – 500 years old. It was last measured in 2023 with a height of 74 feet and a circumference of 321 inches. The White Oak is located on property of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. CHO is committed to protecting and preserving this historic tree. Due to its location in the security footprint of the airport, this area is fenced, and access to the tree is limited. Respect the following rules:
You are required to contact Public Safety (434-981-4152) when you arrive and when you are leaving the area.
1. No climbing on the tree or removing leaves or limbs.
2. No defacing or markings on any part of the tree.
3. No items may be placed on the tree or fences.
4. Do not leave any items in the area.
5. No signs are allowed to be displayed in or outside of the fenced area.
6. Parking only in the gravel area outside of the fence. No vehicles are allowed inside the fenced area.
7. If there is bad weather on the scheduled day – access will be denied, and you will need to reschedule.
